John Hughes

John Wilden Hughes Jr. was an American film director, producer and screenwriter from Lansing, Michigan, U.S.

Hughes's most notable and popular work was done between the 1980's and 90's. Some of this work included directing and producing such classics like 'Sixteen Candles' (1984), 'Weird Science' (1985), 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' (1986), 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' (1987), 'Uncle Buck' (1989) and my favourite film of all time, 'The Breakfast Club' (1985).

He also worked on 'Pretty in Pink' (1986), 'Some Kind of Wonderful' (1987), 'Home Alone' (1990), 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' (1992), 'Baby's Day Out' (1994), 'Miracle on 34th Street' (1994), '101 Dalmatians' (1996) and 'Flubber' (1997), acting as writer and producer on all of them.

All of these films received great love and admiration from audiences, some of which have even become cult classics and are still praised in modern day. Hughes was arguably best known for his coming-of-age teen movies that managed to not only help launch the careers of multiple young actors, but also managed to connect with millions of viewers around the world, including myself.

Films like 'The Breakfast Club', 'Pretty in Pink', 'Home Alone' and 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' are some of my favourite films and I can honestly say that they have helped shape me as both a person and a filmmaker.

'The Breakfast Club' has particularly affected me as a person, with the film helping me understand the true importance of friendship, as well as the importance to be yourself and not let others hold you down. It was this film that also made me want to become a filmmaker. After watching it, I felt truly inspired and driven to follow in the footsteps of my favourite director, John Hughes.
