Networking Day

On Thursday 18th January, I took part in a networking event in which all of the level 5 and level 6 students from my course (Media Film Production) met with our year (level 4) to give us advice and socialise. Although I found the first part of this event very awkward and forced, the day soon picked up and became quite enjoyable and extremely helpful.
During the second half of the day, I met a variety of different students from both level 5 and 6, all of which were very nice and knowledgeable about the course. I found the start of the networking quite difficult and I was quite shy about approaching people. However, once I went and spoke to one person, it then became very easy from there, with me going and speaking to at least a dozen level 5 and 6 students. I exchanged contact details (Facebook) with all of these students and made it clear that I would be willing to crew for any of them on their films if they needed the help. I also asked all of them how they found all of the remaining first year modules that I had yet to complete, as I thought this might help prepare me for them.
On a whole, this was a very productive day as I came out of the networking event feeling much more confident and comfortable speaking to strangers. I also came out of this day feeling a lot more optimistic about having chances to crew on second and third year films because I feel like I made good connections with various level 5 and 6 students.
